What’s up Filipino youth? (The shadow side)

Computer, mobile phones, stereos, ipods, mp3s, peer groups, and malls make up the whole world of a typical Filipino teen. Most of our time is eaten by these which simply means lump of seconds for our studies and even our own families. Far away from early ages, this is not supposed to be this way.

Two years ago, I was 13 then, my cousin tied the knot through a civil wedding. You may not believe me but his wife is just 15 and he is just around 17 and both of them have not finished school. They took the vows for their little angel soon to witness the world. His wife is just one of those youngsters who lose track of their path. This may be your worst downfall but mind you, you can always go back. You may not bring things back but you can gather courage, take a good look at what had happened and create your new, better way. Just always look up.

Early marriage and premarital sex are the two prime suspects of Philippines’ growing population, and two of the major problems our parents worry about. I never said “Do not get a boyfriend/girlfriend” but please, please do not be aggressive. We are too young for this and there is time for everything so do not be in a hurry. And another thing is our activities with our friends. At a very young age, some have already tried smoking, gambling, drinking alcoholic beverages and taking prohibited drugs because of peer influence and worse, peer pressure. There are numerous circles of friends out there, if you cannot find the best one, perhaps you can find the better one. You need not to involve yourself in fraternities, sororities, and the like. You can have a company that does not need hazing. So what’s the point of joining frats?

Another threat, let’s just call it “technology mania”. Yes! You heard it right. Our youth today gives too much attention to their gadgets. During my high school days, in a vacant period, I observed my classmates. Majority of us brought out cellular phones, and mp3s. Some were texting, some were playing mobile games, some were taking pictures and I just found myself listening to music from my phone. We have not even thought of taking a glance at our books which lived their whole lives inside the filthy lockers. And try to browse through the pages of your books, you’ll never fail to heard a compliment. Then after school, what’s next? As expected, we go straight to computer shops, cafes, mall, and less likely to our homes.

Why is this so? Let me guess. We’re doing these out of curiosity, because of trend, because of our immaturity, perhaps because of all. Okay! All of these are just for now, this is what is up for now. And now is not forever, and it can never be forever.

So the next time someone will ask the same question, sana may nagbago.

the glittering world and the age is too priory to fall to the worldly and physical allurements. this is where the youngsters make mistake to fall to these short lived things without realizing what would happen later. it always hurts the emotions and sometimes cause many emotional disturbances. The friend circle plays the pivotal role in making things more worse and the person realizes it when the things are beyond the control or perhaps s/he has lost everything. I am not against all these things but wanna say that one should know the aftermath before going for any such things. coz later you have no time to repent even sometimes you do not have the power to start again.

sex is a natural need of the humans, but too much indulgence is bad. more bad is the intoxication, use of many steroids and drugs that more often leads to the crime. this is the present trend and the modern youth is falling pray to all this.

drugs availability is increasing with each passing day here in Philippines and youngsters running for the western life style is ruining our values. they tend to look for the lifestyle but instead lose everything and one day the situation comes that they remain neither the Filipinos nor the western one.

But here I am not agree with Donna. it's never due to the technology mania, but due to the inner instincts that instigates one to look for a style to copy but fail miserably, and if they fail, its never the technology to blame but the one who fails. technology always add to your knowledge, work efficiency, entertains you... and it's up to you how to use it.

to loose virginity before the appropriate time is a prerogative varying from person to person. this is a holy shit and gradually loosing the ground. what is noise to you may be music to others. so this is totally insane for one person to decide the right time for the others.

Yes! It is true that the modern gadgets affect us on how we use them that is why I named it ”technology mania.” So what’s the point?

I am not at all deciding the perfect time for others. My point here is to motivate them to give it up when they are prepared and mature enough for the consequences so that they will be a family with high spirits. Filipino families full of bliss, wouldn’t that be a sight?

Controlling human behavior has been proven throughout history to be one of the most difficult (if not impossible) tasks to accomplish. The best and most logical approach to the problem is to give teens easy access to devices that make sex safer as well as exposing them to good, solid education. Why is this so hard to understand?

Now the perception of the teens at the formative years of their life is so unclear, so shaky, that they eventually succumb to the temptation and peer pressure. Of course the story is altogether different in those family who aren’t rigid and do not harbor any inhibitions in them !
